What Insect Is Biting My Wife And Me In Our Home?
For 25 years my wife and I have experienced itchy inflamed bites at home during the months of late august, sept., oct. & nov. ONLY. We never felt the bites when they occurred. The itching and inflamation last 2 to 5 days. We have no pets. We do not garden or work out doors. We have inspected, vacuumed and sparyed every nook & cranny in our home. Washed all our clothes, etc. Most of the bites occur between our navel and knees (i.e: waistline area, buttocks, thighs), sometimes on upper arms and on a rare occasion on the top of my foot. We have never seen an insect in our home that bite humans. We live in Queens, New York. We have consulted with entimologists, dermatologists, pest control people, google, etc. The confusing issue for all of them was that these bites occurred ONLY during Aug – Nov. every year (Some years more some years less). Has anyone out there had similar experiences? Any answers for this 25 year long dilemma?

Dec 27, 09 at 3:07 amThe only thing I can think of is chiggers. I’m not sure how, but you may pick them up from outside. Then again, living in New York, I’m not really sure. Do you have any sandy areas near you? Like a construction site or something. Sand fleas could be a problem and chiggers love sand and high grass, but you say you don’t go outside much. Even walking to and from the car could do it. Hmmmm…..I’m sorry, but that’s all I can think of.~

Dec 27, 09 at 5:42 amGet yourselfs some Nobles Diatom Dust insect powder and do your bed exactly as its’ described on the bottle. The cover it with three sheets and vaccuum after about 10 days. It sounds like bed bugs which are really hard to get rid of. I would have said fleas because thats usually the time of year they are the worst, Diatom Dirt works on fleas as well and actually gets right through the shell of the egg and kills the eggs as well as fleas. It can’t hurt to try it just use a face mask and gloves when you put in the mattress. I use it as a preventative measure because it happened to me once. Also do your luggage, luggage can carry lots of critters. Good luck. Any hardware store or pet store carries the above product and it really works.

Dec 27, 09 at 11:57 amDo you experience them if you stay at a hotel during the fall? Probably not. Don’t let the bed bugs bite. The insects are living in your rectum and during their mating season they come out of your butt and start laying eggs in the near by skin. You guys are nice hosts.

Dec 27, 09 at 6:41 pmBed bugs…. seriously no joke. Dateline did a special on this a few years ago. If you have little red dots on your wall, headboard, behind the bed, or anywhere around the bed, this is the cause.
